Blogdex and spam

Some have noted (in email and on their blogs) that Blogdex has been spammed. This is not the case, and has never been.

Every once in a while, web hosting services get acquired, or shut down a number of sites that were weblogs. In their place, the hosting service puts a default splash page, usually containing a number of advertising links, which Blogdex interprets as normal links.

This isn't spam per se, but simply a regular event in the weblog ecosphere. Some scary corporation acquires the rights to some blog land, strips it of its natural vegetation, and puts up giant billboards in its place.

I need to write a deforestation-detection algorithm, which shouldn't be difficult, but will take a little time. The long and short of it is: Blogdex hasn't been spammed, but should have some garbage collection in place shortly.
