The biggest issue facing Blogdex lately has been related to scaleability. I didn't build the index with the future in mind, and I'm paying for it now. The two services which caused slowdowns are the URL search and the all time index, both of which utilize the entire set of links, which has grown beyond our hardware limits.
I've taken them both down for the time being. I'm hoping to have them back online by the end of the week, or next week at the latest. I'll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
As some of you may remember, blogdex started just over a year ago. While I was the only one in attendance at the 1 year anniversary party, it was a good time. Blogdex and I had a few beers, reminisced about old times,
Over the next month, I'll be refurbishing what has turned into a sluggish underdeveloped system. If all goes well, the new and improved blogdex will be snappier and easier to use.
It has been a great year, and I have the entire weblog community to thank for helping me stay on track and keep things moving. I'm looking forward to the next year, which hopefully will be full of new directions that will continue to push the envelope on this massive social experiment.
