farsi blogs

the top links today were interesting indeed. after a rush of farsi blog submissions, over 200 in the last week, thanks to a story about persian bloggers in the online bbc news that mentioned blogdex. the link statistics have been disrupted by this new force in the system, but hopefully they'll settle down in the next day. if they don't, i'll have to institute some sort of language controls, or else you'll all have to learn to read farsi! ha! not.

update your metalinker code!

for those of you already using metalinker, I've created a more compact version of the link source listing. you can update your metalinker code by simply changing one line in the the "metalinker.js" file

from:

new_node.href = "http://blogdex.media.mit.edu/browseSource.asp?url=" + escape(a_node.href);

to:

new_node.href = "http://blogdex.media.mit.edu/metalinker/source.asp?url=" + escape(a_node.href);

I'm sure that the people thinkblank will be updating their version shortly, but in the mean time I thought I'd inform the early adopters. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

sluggish behavior

blogdex has gotten slow lately. i'm pretty sure this has something to do with searching, since the link index has grown larger than the memory on my database machine. i'll have to think of a workaround, but for now i might just disable searching.
