new index: fresh

in response to a number of people who have expressed an interest in an index which is "fresher" than the one currently at the front of blogdex, i've created the "fresh" index, now navigable from the top pane, but also availble from this url:

http://blogdex.media.mit.edu/browseIndex.asp?idx=fresh

the only way that a link can stay in this index is if its growth is exponential, namely that it doubles each day. i think that those who feel the current index is stale should find this one delicious and ripe.

the cat has left the hat

after discovering a couple of links, i guess the cat has officially left the hat. for those that are inclined, you can give it a twirl, and let me know what you think. it's in a "use at your own risk" stage of development, so suggestions only please. instead of focusing on anyone's site, i'll give you memepool instead :)

http://blogdex.media.mit.edu/socnet/index.asp?ego=memepool.com

the url is likely to change, as well as some of the interface. also, there is no way to search the set of sites, so you'll have to guess, or wiggle your way through the social network to find a given person. by the end of next week, i'll have some more goodies as well. happy networking..

crawling frenzy

i apologize to everyone who experienced some nasty crawling effects last night from BlogBot (the culprit should have been named BlogBot/2.0). we were looking for a different set of webpages, namely links pages that are hidden one level deep. we're hoping to build the best social network representation possible before it goes online!

this was a one-time crawl, and shouldn't happen again anytime soon. if it does need to happen, it will be much slower and less thorough.
